چکیده

This Article explores the implications of transactional script smart contracts used in situations where there is less than total trust between parties. In particular, this asks question how parties to these next generation scripts can seek redress and remedies event that does not perform according parties’ intent. Until feel safe any errors be corrected, large-scale implementation will hobbled. Part II articulates why term “transactional scripts” preferable “smart contracts” describes utility potential scripts. III identifies several factors hinder greater expansion use It goes on identify uncertainty enforcement as most important barrier innovation, finding reluctant entrust bigger more complex transactions until are comfortable an external mechanism capable correcting execution transaction. lack reliable mechanisms a problem exacerbated by characteristic distributed ledger technology, which move only forward, preventing revisions or reversals preexisting entries. IV critiques possible may able provide error correction, including statutory law, private online dispute resolution, public/private regulatory partnership, common law. V concludes Article, noting scripts’ tethered security provided available error-correction mechanisms. Only contracting become assured integrity their intent effectuated adopted for use.

Smart Contracts for Bribing Miners

We present three smart contracts that allow a briber to fairly exchange bribes to miners who pursue a mining strategy benefiting the briber. The first contract, CensorshipCon, highlights that Ethereum’s uncle block reward policy can directly subsidise the cost of bribing miners. The second contract, HistoryRevisionCon, rewards miners via an in-band payment for reversing transactions or enforcin...

A script-based AAC system for transactional interaction

Non-speaking people often rely on AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) devices to assist them to communicate. These AAC devices are slow to operate, however, and as a result conversations can be very difficult and frequently break down. This is especially the case when the conversation partner is unfamiliar with this method of communication, and is a big obstacle to many people when...

Quantum Error-Correction Codes on Abelian Groups

We prove a general form of bit flip formula for the quantum Fourier transform on finite abelian groups and use it to encode some general CSS codes on these groups.

BitML: a calculus for Bitcoin smart contracts

We propose a domain-specific language for smart contracts, which allows participants to transfer cryptocurrency according to agreed contract terms. We define a symbolic and a computational model for reasoning about their security. In the symbolic model, participants act according to the semantics of the domain-specific language. Instead, in the computational model they exchange bitstrings, and ...

Scripting smart contracts for distributed ledger technology

We give an overview of the scripting languages used in existing cryptocurrencies, and in particular we review in some detail the scripting languages of Bitcoin, Nxt and Ethereum, in the context of a high-level overview of Distributed Ledger Technology and cryptocurrencies. We survey different approaches, and give an overview of critiques of existing languages. We also cover technologies that mi...
